Despite is abundance elsewhere, galena is a relative rarity at the Ojuela Mine, probably because most of the lead minerals were naturally oxidized, and because most of it went directly to the crusher. This specimen boasts a large (for the locality) galena cleavage section as host matrix for two secondary lead minerals: opaque, light beige to butterscotch wulfenites and opaque, greenish, rounded mimetite. The wulfenites and tabular and reach a few millimeters in size. These secondaries sit in a partial pocket atop the galena base, which is partly mirror-bright, and partly dull. Some damage to the mimetite is noted, but the galena is the star here. I've examined hundreds of flats of Ojuela Mine material in my time as a dealer and this is by far the largest galena I've seen.
