A fantastically water-clear and glassy gypsum crystal, whose utter transparency is reduced only by slightly frosted faces. Crystal face growth features add interest to this icy specimen. The overly-used (and abused) varietal name 'selenite' (which should be used just for very clear, colorless gypsum) certainly applies here! (Frequent visitors to the Dragon Minerals web site may notice how rarely the term 'selenite' is used here.) A little residual matrix adheres to the back but otherwise the condition is darn-near pristine...unusual for such a soft and easily cleaved mineral. A very fine example, and from one of the world's best gypsum-producing localities to boot. My lousy photos fail to do this specimen justice.
