29667: Adamite - Was
$32 Now $14 Ojuela Mine, MapimÃ, Mapimà Municipality, Durango, Mexico Small cabinet - 6.2 x 6.0 x 4.6 cm 148 grams Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order An earthy limonite matrix hosts a
covering of highly lustrous and sparkling, translucent
to opaque, brownish adamite crystals. Individual
crystals are well-formed and reach at least 5 mm in
size. A bit of matrix at a 45 degree angle provides a
'trellis', resulting in a finger of adamite rising about
the main matrix surface. Unlike many other Ojuela Mine adamite specimens,
this example does not fluoresce, due to an absence of
(UO2)2+ (uranyl ion) inclusions.
Minor, colorless calcite is also present. Displays quite
nicely as shown without a stand. The adamite is in
excellent condition, but the calcite has scattered
dings; this calcite is easily removed (a quick vinegar
soak) without risking the adamite.
