30869: Gypsum - Was
$8 Now $3 Skardu area, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan Miniature - 6.5 x 3.4 x 1..4 cm 33 grams Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order Not the prettiest gypsum specimen
available, but a novelty for the locality. Silky, striated
texture. Appears to have grown in a seam, presumably in a
semi-arid area. Some time ago, a dealer was selling gypsum
from Pakistan, claiming it to be
beryllonite. Although I see the resemblance of this
material to true beryllonite in photos, this is definitely
gypsum, as it is softer than a fingernail (Mohs hardness:
gypsum = 2; beryllonite = 5.5-6).
