30935: Gypsum - Was
$12 Now $6 Skardu District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan Small cabinet - 7.2 x 6.9 x 2.0 cm 102 grams Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order Given the appearance (tabular shape,
color, and striations) and stated locality for this
specimen, one might think at first this is a beryllonite.
However, this sample is easily scratched with a
fingernail, suggesting it to be gypsum and not
beryllonite. Furthermore, the measured specific gravity
(2.2) is a much better agreement for gypsum (Mindat specific
gravity = 2.3) versus beryllonite (2.8). While
gypsum is probably fairly abundant in Pakistan, specimens
are only rarely offered. Displays either vertically or
horizontally without needing a stand. No damage.
