Rosasite pseudomorph after
Malachite pseudomorph after Azurite - $600 Reduced
to $540
Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia
10.8 x 8.4 x 8.4 cm (4.3 x 3.3 x 3.3 inches)
Specimen status: Available Click

This is an exceptionally large
example from a locality famous for malachite after azurite
pseudomorphs. The terminations are incomplete, but this is minor
considering the size of this specimen: the longest single crystal is an
impressive 9.8 cm. Several display angles possible without a stand.
Price would have another zero (at least) if the terminations were
complete.

One face of the matrix hosts a generous
coverage of tiny pink quartz crystals. Elsewhere on the matrix crystals
of various sulfides are seen; pyrite (to 4 mm across) on the back and
sphalerite/galena clusters along the edge. The quartz gives a nice
sparkle. No damage.

A rich coverage mostly transparent
fluorite cubes on a crystalline brown sphalerite carpet, which rises
from a massive sphalerite matrix. The fluorites have excellent glassy
luster and reach 1.3 cm along the crystal edges. Some scattered edge
wear and corner cleaves are noted. Displays well as shown; also sits
vertically without a stand.

This large and complete aquamarine
crystal tips the scale at about 2.3 pounds (about 1 kg). It is etched
(hence the frosty appearance) and contacted (but not damaged), and
mostly translucent. The terminations are complete. Some muscovite and
cleavelandite are also present.

Vanadinite and Goethite - $16 Reduced

Red-brown,
translucent to opaque
vanadinite crystals on a crystalline goethite matrix. The vanadinites
reach 6 mm in length and have a nifty resinous luster. The gray matrix
is composed of gossan plus sparkly,
submillimeter, rectangular goethite crystals. A few small vanadinite
chips are noted. Could probably be trimmed to emphasize the best
vanadinites at the top of the first photo.

Kernite - $18 Reduced

A mostly-transparent, colorless kernite
crystal shard. (Complete kernite crystals are rare.) The Boron area
mines are all but closed to collecting, so kernite specimens
(especially
of this size) are only rarely available outside of
southern California. Very typical for the species and locality.

Rhodochrosite and Quartz - $175 Reduced

Sweet Home Mine, Alma District, Park County, Colorado

Specimen status: Available Click

About a dozen pink to red
rhodochrosite crystals on and in a matrix of quartz crust and needles.
The rhodochrosites are opaque to translucent, reach 1.3 cm across, with
mostly natural crystal faces. More crystals might be revealed by
careful removal of more quartz. Minor fluorite also present. Sawn edges
and back (as commonly necessary for specimen extraction when the matrix
is tough), but this do not detract. |

A vug in matrix hosts a thick carpet of
tiny and fuzzy but sparkly yellow mimetite crystals. (The vug's depth
makes it hard to photograph.) Also present are a few translucent to
opaque, colorless calcite rhombs (these reach 1 cm) and opaque,
somewhat ragged wulfenite blades.

A cluster of delicate golden-yellow
calcite crystals on a hollow basalt matrix. Reminiscent to me of a
baked potato. The calcites are translucent to transparent, with a
glassy luster. Both reach 4.7 cm along the edge. Despite the tool marks
around the exterior, an aesthetic specimen. Displays nicely; the two
edge cleaves do not detract.

Murky light green fluorite cubes rise
from a massive fluorite matrix. Individual fluorite crystals are sharp,
translucent to opaque, and reach 2.1 cm along the edge. Some of the
fluorites have a clear (nearly colorless) edge zone and darker, gray
core. Partially encrusted second generation of tiny fluorite and quartz
crystals. Except for the usual edge issues and minor edgewear, no
damage. Several good display positions possible.

A large and complete, opaque, brown
dravite crystal from the famous Australian locality. Weighs over 600
grams, and has good luster. One termination is complete, while the
other is partial due to removal from matrix. Partially encrusted with
muscovite. A few small contacts and chips are noted, but the specimen
is free of major damage.
