12555:
Fluorite and Sphalerite - $35   Reduced to $31
Rosiclare Sub-District, Illinois - Kentucky Fluorspar District, Hardin County, Illinois
12.9 x 7.5 x 4.5 cm (5.1 x 3.0 x 1.8 inches)
Specimen status: Available     Click here to order

This specimen started as black, matte sphalerite crystals to 1.5 cm and yellow to purple fluorite deposited on matrix. Later natural etching removed some fluorite; what is left behind has an interesting texture. No damage to this specimen with a tortured past.

12569:
Sphalerite, Marcasite, and Calcite - $125   Reduced to $81
Commerce area, Ottawa County, Oklahoma
24 x 20 x 8 cm (9.4 x 7.9 x 3.1 inches)
Specimen status: Available     Click here to order

A large example of a classic mid-America mineral association. Black clusters of sphalerite with a stepped growth features and submetallic luster reach 3.5 cm across, covered with a rich carpet of dull marcasite blades. The marcasite is stable; the specimen is 40-50 years old and show no sign of rot nor does it have an objectionable odor. Also present are a few opaque calcite crystals, some doubly terminated, that reach 2 cm in length. All on a chert matrix. A few small patches of missing marcasite, but no significant damage on this large piece.

12639:
Epidote
Djouga, Bufaulabe Cercle, Kayes Region, Mali
3.8 x 1.9 x 1.1 cm (1.5 x 0.7 x 0.4 inches)
Specimen status: Sold

From the Mali locality famous for green prehnite balls comes this complete, lustrous, doubly-terminated, and undamaged epidote crystal. The epidotes from this locality are underrated and can be quite nice. Here is a prime example.

12654:
Kësterite, Mushistonite, Beryl (variety Aquamarine), Malachite, Stibnite(?), Quartz, and Muscovite
Mt Xuebaoding, Pingwu County, Sichuan Province, China
28.0 x 11.3 x 10.1 cm (11.0 x 4.4 x 4.0 inches)
Specimen status: Sold

A large, complexly terminated quartz crystal hosts a plethora of other minerals. especially notable are several complete crystals of the rare copper tin sulfide mineral kësterite; the largest of these is 9 mm across and coated with a layer mushistonite, a rare green tin hydroxide . Also present are a few delicate blue, glassy aquamarine crystals, reaching 1.5 cm along the edge. Minor but deep green malachite is present with some kësterite in one pocket. Muscovite is also scattered about. And as if all this wasn't enough, the quartz features a few stibnite inclusions. (Mindat list boulangerite but not stibnite from this locality; to my eye this looks more like stibnite.) This specimen has been nicknamed Atlantis, after its resemblance to the space shuttle which recently completed the final shuttle mission. An impressive association specimen that has several display possibilities and is free of significant damage.

12813:
Barite - $450   Reduced to $387
Meikle Mine, Bootstrap District, Elko County, Nevada
16.5 x 13.0 x 6.2 cm (6.5 x 5.1 x 2.6 inches)

Specimen status: Available     Click here to order

This is one of the richest Meikle Mine barite specimens that I have ever seen.  A vuggy but solid limonite matrix hosts hundreds of sharp and glassy, mostly transparent barite crystals with the golden-yellow color famous from the Meikle Mine. Individual crystals reach 2.9 cm across (fourth picture), but most are around 1 cm. Sparkly and aesthetic. A few tiny, scattered rubs are barely noticeable; otherwise free of damage. Displays as shown in the first picture without a stand, but I would use some support just in case.

12954:
Calcite - $60   Reduced to $54
Rodeo, Mun. de Rodeo, Durango, Mexico
14.8 x 10.6 x 8.2 cm (5.8 x 4.2 x 3.2 inches)
Specimen status: Available     Click here to order

A cluster of opaque, creamy white calcite crystals of the so-called 'angel wing' variety. Sculptural and aesthetic. Multiple display possibilities. A few rough points which were probably matrix contact points, but otherwise nothing I would call damage.

13121:
Rhodochrosite
Wutong Mine, Cangwu County, Wuzhou Prefecture, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China
4.2 x 3.1 x 2.1 cm (1.7 x 1.2 x 0.8 inches)
Specimen status: Sold

From the recent finds at the Wutong Mine comes this translucent rhodochrosite crystal. It appears to be a cleavage fragment, but the color is very good.

13130:
Rhodochrosite - $35   Reduced to $31
Wutong Mine, Cangwu County, Wuzhou Prefecture, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China
5.4 x 4.3 x 3.3 cm (2.1 x 1.7 x 1,3 inches)
Specimen status: Available     Click here to order

From the recent finds at the Wutong Mine comes this cluster of translucent reddish pink, somewhat flattened rhodochrosite rhombohedra. Some faces are natural and some are cleavages.

13192:
Dioptase and Duftite - $200   Reduced to $180
Mindouli, Pool Region, Republic of Congo
12.9 x 11.0 x 7.0 cm (5.1 x 4.3 x 2.8 inches)
Specimen status: Available     Click here to order

A generous grouping of deep emerald-green dioptase crystals, accented with apple-green duftite crusts, on matrix. The dioptases range from translucent to opaque, and have good luster. The complete crystals reach 1 cm in length. The incomplete dioptases are constrained mostly to the edges and back. Sparkly and richly green. Notable especially for the dioptase/duftite association.

13296:
Topaz - $250   Reduced to $180
Pakistan
6.8 x 6.4 x 5.6 cm (2.7 x 2.5 x 2.2 inches)
Specimen status: Available     Click here to order

A glassy, opaque to transparent topaz crystal the size of a small fist. Complete on the front, but etched and contacted on the back. A few very small chips along the edge of the frosted top. Weighs 380 grams.

13444:
Orpiment - $22   Reduced to $19
Quiruvilca Mine, Quiruvilca District, Santiago de Chuco Province, La Libertad Department, Peru

9.7 x 6.3 x 2.5 cm (3.8 x 2.5 x 1.0 inches)
Specimen status: Available     Click here to order

A nearly flat plate of small but sparkly, burnt orange orpiment crystals on matrix. The yellow spots are shallow bruises. These are difficult to avoid with a mineral this soft, and the price reflects this. (Triple the price without the bruises.) Displays well with a stand as shown. Another specimen to add a splash of color to your display cabinet.

13452:
Orpiment, Barite, and Realgar - $40   Reduced to $36
Quiruvilca Mine, Quiruvilca District, Santiago de Chuco Province, La Libertad Department, Peru

6.6 x 4.6 x 3.0 cm (2.6 x 1.8 x 1.2 inches)
Specimen status: Available     Click here to order

A mound of small but sparkly, burnt orange orpiment crystals on matrix. The yellow spots are shallow bruises. These are difficult to avoid with a mineral this soft, and the price reflects this. (Triple the price without the bruises.) Colorless, transparent and tabular barite crystals to 9 mm and deep red, glassy realgar crystals to 9 mm also present. Displays well with or without a stand as shown. Another mineral that will add a splash of color to your display cabinet.
