Gypsum pseudomorph after
Glauberite - $20
Camp Verde, Camp Verde District, Yavapai County,
Arizona
4.8 x 3.0 x 2.3 cm (1.9 x 1.2 x 0.9 inches)
Specimen status: Available Click

The Camp Verde
locality has long
been famous for pseudomorphs after glauberite. Among these, calcite
pseudomorphs are (in my experience) significantly more common than
gypsum pseudomorphs. Here we have a sharp and complete gypsum
pseudomorph, composed of three intergrown crystals, with a frosted
surface and transparent interior. The only
reason this undamaged specimen is not three times the price is because
I was able to obtain quite a few at a very reasonable price.

Adamite - $10

A limonite matrix hosts adamite crystal
sprays and clusters to about 5 mm. The adamites are lustrous,
translucent, and terminated (except for a few around the edges). Most
show bright green fluorescence under shortwave UV. The specimen sits as
shown without a stand. No damage.

A limonite matrix hosts scattered adamite
crystal sprays. The adamites are translucent, lustrous, and terminated,
with individual crystals reaching 1.1 cm in length. The specimen is
void of both shortwave UV fluorescence and of damage (except for a
contact point on one cluster). Sits for display as shown without a
stand.

Stilbite and Quartz
New Street Quarries, Paterson, Passaic County, New
Jersey
5.5 x 3.9 x 3.2 cm (2.2 x 1.5 x 1.3 inches)
Specimen status: Sold
A group of nearly parallel, lustrous and
translucent to opaque stilbite blades, accented with tiny but sparkly,
scattered quartz crystals. One portion of the matrix along the back is
flat and striated, suggesting it is a cast after anhydrite. A few very
tiny nicks, otherwise no damage. Displays well without a stand.

Adamite and Gypsum - $50

Durango, Mexico
8.3 x 6.3 x 3.6 cm (3.3 x 2.5 x 1.4 inches)
Specimen status: Available Click

A limonite matrix hosts a rich covering
of adamite crystals on two sides. These adamites are light brown in
color, have good luster, and (except for a few small contacted points)
sharply terminated. They also show bright green fluorescence under
shortwave UV (third picture). Also
present are numerous colorless and transparent gypsum needles, reaching
8 mm in length. The adamite/gypsum association is very uncommon; I've
seen maybe a dozen specimens of this type ever (and I am a gypsum
collector). Sits well for display as shown without the need for a
stand. No damage.

Mimetite, Calcite, and Wulfenite - $14

Translucent, greenish yellow mimetite
crystals and while translucent to opaque calcite crystals on a limonite
matrix. The mimetites reach about 1 mm, whereas the largest calcite is
about 4 mm along the crystal edge. The mimetite-lined tunnel visible in
the second picture goes all the way through the specimen. A few small,
tabular wulfenite crystals round out this interesting association
specimen. Sits well for display as shown without need for a stand. No
damage.

Colemanite - $26
Sigma
Mine, Furnace Creek District, Death Valley National Park, Inyo
County, California
9.4 x 6.8 x 3.7 cm (3.7 x 2.7 x 1.5 inches)
Specimen status: Available Click

Sprays of sharp, translucent to opaque
colemanite blades on a massive colemanite matrix. Individual colemanite
crystals reach 1.3 cm. Only a few terminations are missing. The Sigma
Mine is an uncommon borate locality, lying just outside of the Death
Valley
National Park, where mineral collecting is strictly prohibited. Has a
sawn base and back, which do not detract; in fact the sawn base makes
for an excellent display base.
