08952: "Ernstite" pseudomorph after Childrenite/Eosphorite
Roberto Caldeira Claim, LinĂ³polis, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Miniature - 4.5 x 2.6 x 1.0 cm (1.8 x 1.0 x 0.4 inches)
Weight - 12 grams (0.03 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

The Roberto Caldeira Claim is famous not only for exceptional childrenite/eosphorite crystals but also for pseudomorphs of ernstite after the these species. (Ernstite is in quotes because it has been suggested this is not a discreet/valid mineral species.) Here we have a representative example, composed of earthy ernstite faithfully replacing the original bladed phosphate mineral. The termination is sharp and prominent, having survived the pseudomorphing process well. There is a clear repair about two-thirds of the way up from the base (visible in the photos) but this is not a major distraction given the uncommonness of these pseudomorphs, and the asking price.
