01483: Stilbite, Tourmaline, Microcline, Albite (variety Cleavelandite)
Himalaya Mine, Mesa Grande District, San Diego County, California
Cabinet - 12.5 x 8.0 x 4.2 cm (4.9 x 3.1 x 1.7 inches)
Weight - 334 grams (0.74 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

An opaque dull gray microcline crystal (quite typical for Himalaya Mine microcline) hosts a rich carpet of small, brown stilbite blades decorated with pink tourmaline crystals. Some white, bladed albite (variety cleavelandite) is also present. This specimen is most notable for the stilbite/tourmaline association: fairly rare among San Diego County pegmatites, but more abundant at the Himalaya Mine than perhaps any other San Diego County locality.
