08073: Gypsum, Calcite, Sphalerite, Galena, and Pyrite
Casapalca Mine, Casapalca, Huarochiri Province, Lima Department, Peru
Cabinet - 9.6 x 9.6 x 6.2 cm (3.8 x 3.8 x 2.4 inches)
Weight - 588 grams (1.30 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

A sphalerite/pyrite/galena matrix hosts numerous sharp gypsum crystals -- mostly very transparent -- the largest of which is 2.6 cm. Many of the gypsum crystals have red-brown iron oxide/hydroxide stains (adds some character, in this case) and are doubly terminated. Underneath the gypsum crystals is a carpet of ragged, light brown calcite. A great Peruvian mineral association specimen which has numerous display angles that do not need a stand. Minor wear here and there -- mostly at the edges -- but no significant issues are seen.
