Mt Xuebaoding, Pingwu County, Mianyang Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China
Small cabinet - 6.2 x 4.7 x 4.4 cm (2.4 x 1.9 x 1.7 inches)
Weight - 240 grams (0.53 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

A large and rather strangely crystallized scheelite from one of the most famous and most prolific scheelite localities. Yes this specimen has a wonderful burnt orange color (darker than the pictures on my computer suggest) and yes it is large for the species and less it has bright blue-white fluorescence under shortwave UV (second photo, but in reality much brighter than shown) but the shape is what is truly outstanding and unusual here. The specimen has plenty of glassy, lustrous scheelite faces but also many areas that are just complex as if naturally etched (but I don't see any evidence of etching). The Chinese dealer from whom I obtained this said there were found in a sand area of the pegmatite; hence the weird crystallization. The dealer also indicated the find was very small -- just eight specimens total -- so I bough the entire lot. Something rather different for the collector of Chinese minerals or scheelite, or just oddball stuff. No point of attachment -- so this oddball is also a floater -- and no damage. Displays nicely on its naturally flat base.
