19743: Lepidolite and Tourmaline
Cryo-Genie Mine, Warner Springs District, San Diego County, California
Cabinet - 11.7 x 9.0 x 7.9 cm (4.6 x 3.5 x 3.1 inches)
Weight - 952 grams (2.10 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

A large lavender lepidolite matrix chunk hosts several mostly pink tourmaline crystals (individuals or clusters). The large tourmaline cluster is 4.4 cm across, and consists of several terminated tourmaline sprays (last photo). The lepidolite matrix is too course-grained for lapidary work, but the specimen sits beautifully for display at many angles. Yes, lepidolite has been discredited as a mineral species, but the term remains in very common use for lavender mica so we'll retain the term here. No damage.
