08961: "Ernstite" pseudomorph after Childrenite/Eosphorite
Roberto Caldeira Claim, LinĂ³polis, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Miniature - 3.6 x 1.6 x 0.9 cm (1.4 x 0.6 x 0.4 inches)
Weight - 7 grams (0.01 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

The Roberto Caldeira Claim is famous not only for exceptional childrenite/eosphorite crystals but also for pseudomorphs of ernstite after the these species. (Ernstite is in quotes because it has been suggested this is not a discreet/valid mineral species.) Here we have a example of these pseudomorphs, composed of earthy ernstite faithfully replacing the original bladed phosphate mineral. The termination is sharp and prominent, having survived the pseudomorphing process well. No damage.
