This specimen consists mostly of groups of lustrous, black tourmaline, with a bit of colorless opal. (The tourmaline is most likely schorl, bit tourmaline type cannot be identified by sight alone.) The tourmaline groups have complex terminations (due to roughly parallel crystal growth within each bundle), although some are incomplete due to contacts or breaks. The luster is better than the photos suggest. One specimen face hosts a patch of colorless opal crust, which glows a brilliant green under shortwave UV. The specimen has no obvious bottom, and so many display angles not needing a stand are possible. If you like tourmaline or black minerals, this one is for you.
