RF165: Inesite, Hubeite, Apophyllite, and Pyrite
Fengjiashan Mine, Daye County, Huangshi, Hubei, China  Type locality for hubeite
Miniature - 5.1 x 4.7 x 3.9 cm (2.0 x 1.9 x 1.5 inches)
Weight - 66 grams with stand (0.15 pounds)
ex Roy Foerster collection
Specimen status: Sold

Translucent pink inesite sprays to about 1.8 cm in length are rendered sparkly by a coating of colorless, gemmy apophyllite microcrystals, like pink bushes coated after an ice storm. Hubeite is present as several brown hemispheres, also with an apophyllite coating. Hubeite is a hydrated calcium manganese iron silicate, Ca2Mn2+Fe3+[HSi4O13] 2H2O, for which the Fengjiashan Mine is the type locality. The matrix is crystalline pyrite. This sparkly and choice miniature displays quite nicely on its acrylic stand. No damage. Did I mention this specimen is very sparkly?
