RF183: Fluorite
Boquillas Del Carmen, Mun. de Ocampo, Coahuila, Mexico
Small cabinet - 9.0 x 7.2 x 4.3 cm (3.5 x 2.8 x 1.7 inches)
Weight - 286 grams (0.63 pounds)
ex Roy Foerster collection
Specimen status: Sold

The fluorite specimen is composed of many stacked, icy and highly transparent fluorite cubes, with individual crystal faces reaching about 1.2 cm. Each cube has a colorless central zone with a purple outer layer, providing a very aesthetic viewing experience, especially when lit from behind (second photo). (Recall that fluorite color depends somewhat on the light source. The photos shown here used white LED lighting, but the color might be slightly different in your mineral cabinet.) Sits quite nicely for display as shown without needing a base. Complete all around. Distinctly crystalline fluorite from this locality appears to be uncommon; the Mindat photos for this locality show only massive material. Overall condition is quite nice.
