RF365: Smoky Quartz, Goethite, and Microcline
Gilman Notch, Ossipee, Carroll County, New Hampshire
Cabinet - 10.0 x 6.5 x 5.8 cm (3.9 x 2.6 x 2.3 inches)
Weight - 304 grams (0.64 pounds)
ex Roy Foerster collection
Specimen status: Sold

A cleft in massive feldspar matrix hosts a carpet of microcline crystals, upon which rests several smoky quartz crystals, and a blocky patches of goethite. The microcline is opaque but has (for microcline) good luster. The largest smoky quartz is about 1.6 cm in length, highly transparent and nearly complete (has a chip on the backside of the termination). (Pardon the fuzz in the photo.) The goethites are blocky and angular, and appear to be pseudomorphs after siderite. A nice New Hampshire pegmatite specimen which sits well for display without needing a stand.
