| 06887: Gypsum variety Selenite - $50 Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia Small cabinet - 8.5 x 4.7 x 3.7 cm 39 grams Illustrated specimen Specimen status: Reserved Send an email with specimen number to order A single water clear gypsum crystal
(variety selenite) rises 6.7 cm above a matrix of massive
to crystalline gypsum. This 'sword' crystal is slightly
rounded, likely naturally water worn (a common phenomenon
in gypsum). Unusual form from this famous and prolific
locality, at which gypsum is rare (or at least rarely
noted): of the 9118 Tsumeb Mine mineral specimen photos
posted at Mindat, only 9 include gypsum. Previous
collection catalog card (which accompanies the specimen)
gives a November 1979 acquisition date. Previous dealer
label with a $350 (!) price tag. Superb condition. Self
standing. Illustrated at Mindat.
