A chunk of black tourmaline, striated and contacted but not terminated. (Although black tourmaline specimens are frequently labeled as schorl - which is a tourmaline species and not a mere variety - the precise tourmaline species cannot be determined visually. A locality specimen which I collected in February of 2002. The locality is all but extinct, having been thoroughly picked over and now mostly a trash dump.
