Several unprepared plates of almandine garnet in a graphite schist. The photos depict perhaps three-quarters of the lot; not shown are the smaller pieces. These specimens are raw mine run material but when prepared by air abrasion (chemical methods are ineffective) the garnets display a brilliant, ember red (hence the mine name) when lit from behind; see examples here.
