A well-formed,striated and moderately glassy, 2.2 cm powellite crystal sits at the wide end of a pale, translucent stilbite spray. The front face of the powellite has an intriguing natural etch pit. When illuminated with shortwave UV, this powellite displays brilliant creamy yellow-white fluorescence. The powellite has one small incomplete area in the front, and another, larger area in the back (where it is not a distraction). A very affordable example of this uncommon calcium molybdate species from the Deccan basalts. Could probably be trimmed to a thumbnail by removing most of the uninteresting stilbite, but I would be concerned about stilbite separation planes continuing on into the powellite.
