Dark, well formed köttigite sprays to1.4 cm on a limonite matrix, accented with water clear gypsum crystals (variety selenite), mostly terminated, to 1.7 cm. Also present are numerous, smaller prismatic structures; these may be köttigite coated with, or replaced by goethite; their identity is uncertain. A previous dealer label identifies the gray sprays as köttigite, a hydrated zinc arsenate - Zn3(AsO4)2·8H2O but this mineral cannot be visually distinguished from the iron analog symplesite, a hydrated iron arsenate - Fe2+3(AsO4)2·8H2O or the symplesite dimorph, parasymplesite. The specimen is in fine condition.
