| 14203: Franklinite, Gypsum variety
Selenite and Willemite - $24 Sterling Mine, Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Sussex County, New Jersey Miniature - 4.1 x 3.5 x 2.1 cm 48 grams Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order A nonfluorescent matrix hosts a 9 mm
franklinite crystal (plus a few more tiny ones) as well as
a patch of doubly terminated, water clear gypsum crystals
(variety selenite) to about 4 mm. (The matrix is not
calcite; it gives only a few sluggish effervescence with
dilute HCl.) Small, brown willemite grains, which glow a
bright neon green under shortwave UV, are also present.
This specimen is notable for the unusual
franklinite/gypsum association.
