| 44587: Fluorite and Baryte - $18 Aouli, Mibladen, Aït Oufella Caïdat, Midelt Cercle, Midelt Province, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco Small cabinet - 7.9 x 5.2 x 2.9 cm 103 grams Fluorescent (LW/SW) Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order A group of dull but nicely
translucent, golden yellow fluorite cubes to 3.2 cm with a
cluster of thin baryte blades on one end. When purchased
the specimen was rather rusty and crusty; the specimen was
significantly improved by applying a variety of methods
but some staining remains (its removal would require
either more advanced methods than the specimen is worthy
of). Fluorescent: purple under longwave UV (blacklight)
and a pale, oily white under shortwave UV. Might benefit
from a light oiling. Outside of the residual iron
hydroxide/residues, the specimen is in very good
condition. This fluorite would benefit from a light oiling
(yes I know this is anathema but acceptable for lower
quality, common specimens.) Despite the flaws, notable for
the mineral species association.
