Golconda Pegmatite Field, Governador Valadares, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Small cabinet - 8.6 x 1.7 x 0.8 cm (3.4 x 0.7 x 0.3 inches)

This specimen began as a sharp spodumene crystals, which became coated with a crust of brown cookeite. The spodumene dissolved away, leaving this sharply faithful epimorph (cast). The tourmaline was deposited after the cookeite deposition started. The tourmaline is nicely translucent to transparent (it is backlit in the photos), 2.7 in length, and not terminated. A interesting and unusual Brazilian gem pegmatite specimen. No damage.
