RF371: Fluorite and Pyrite
Small cabinet - 9.2 x 8.0 x 7.8 cm (3.6 x 3.1 x 3.1 inches)
1100 grams (2.42 pounds)
ex Roy Foerster collection
Specimen status: Sold

This blocky, beautifully blue fluorite is notable not only for its size but also for the distinct phantoms (best seen when back lit). The internal 'ghost crystal' phantom is easily visible through four of the five non-base faces, and is accentuated with dark matter (probably more pyrite). Three faces and the base are decorated with micro pyrite. As is typical for fluorite, color can vary with the light source. In this case the photos were taken under white LED illumination, but the color may be somewhat different in your mineral cabinet, depending upon the light source. A tiny edge chip is noted near one corner, otherwise (except for the usual base issues) the specimen is in fine shape. Can be displayed as shown, but would certainly benefit from a stand and subdued back lighting. A choice Chinese fluorite trying to mimic an Illinois specimen.
