A cluster of tam gypsum discoid crystals, from a somewhat obscure Australian locality. (Mindat has no specimen photos or description for this locality.) The crystals are highly translucent and lightly colored along the edges, and are darker and opaque towards the center due to sand inclusions. Individual discs reach 4 cm. In addition, several of the discs have a hexagonal, lighter colored, less included core (first growth generation) with a fairly sharp transition to a somewhat darker, more included later growth zone. Modest fluorescence under both longwave and shortwave UV. From a collection assembled mostly in the 1970's and 1980's, and accompanied by an old Rocksmiths label. No damage. We thank Australian collector Peter A. for helpful discussion concerning the correct locality for this specimen.
