28270: Beryl (variety Aquamarine) with Fluorapatite
Skardu District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
Miniature - 2.8 x 2.7 x 2.4 cm (1.1 x 1.1 x 0.9 inches)
20 grams (0.04 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

This specimen is a light blue beryl, with just enough color to be called aquamarine. It has strong vertical striations, and a sharp, complete termination. Most translucent due to milky veils the length of the crystal. The back is mostly covered with a sugary feldspar matrix, on which we find a 3 mm wide, flat, hexagonal fluorapatite crystal. The identify of this small crystal is verified by its bright yellow fluorescence under shortwave UV (compare final two photos). A nice little pegmatite mineral association specimen which is free of any notable damage.
