31010: Hematite and Andradite-Grossular
Iron Hat Deposit, Cadiz, San Bernardino County, California
Miniature - 4.1 x 3.5 x 2.1 cm (1.6 x 1.4 x 0.8 inches)
48 grams (0.11 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

This specimen consists of two platy hematite groups having metallic luster, along with a patch of small but glistening, brown andradite-grossular garnet crystals. The largest hematite cluster is 1.4 across, and has a distinct 'iron rose' shape (third photo). An excellent and affordable specimen from a somewhat obscure California locality (Mindat has just one mineral photo for this place). Displays nicely without needing support.
