| 01439: Dolomite (Manganoan?), Gypsum
variety Selenite, Chalcopyrite and Sphalerite - $24 Naica, Saucillo Municipality, Chihuahua, Mexico Small cabinet - 7.0 x 5.6 x 4.0 cm 120 grams Fluorescent (LW/SW) Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order A cluster of opaque dolomite crystals
(not calcite; verified by sluggish reaction with dilute
hydrochloric acid) to 2.9 cm is associated with abundant,
transparent gypsum needles to about 1 cm and nondescript,
brassy to dull chalcopyrite. The dolomite has overgrown a
matrix rich in massive sphalerite, and displays red
fluorescence under both longwave UV (blacklight) and
shortwave UV (so this is manganoan dolomite...?). Very
nice condition.
