Here we have a representative red grossular garnet example from the famous (although erroneously named) Lake Jaco locality. (Lake Jaco can be seen from the dig site, but the site is not really near the lake.) In this specimen individual grossulars to about 1.2 cm in size are scattered about a course, white rhyolite matrix. Most are incomplete, as is typical for the more affordable examples of this material. It may be possible to further excavate the garnets from this matrix, but with the risk of falling out. These specimens were abundantly available a few years ago, but much harder to find now.
