25714: Beryl (variety Aquamarine) and Opal-AN
Erongo Region, Namibia
Miniature - 3.8 x 3.5 x 3.5 cm (1.5 x 1.4 x 1.4 inches)
46 grams with stand (0.10 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

A coarse feldspar matrix hosts numerous light blue, mostly gemmy aquamarine crystals, with individual crystals reaching 1.6 cm. Most of these aquas are terminated. Some have a partial coating of an unidentified black material that could probably removed (with much patience). Scattered about the aquamarines are blobs of amorphous opal (in the AN designation, A = amorphous and N = networked structure like silica glass). The globs show brilliantly strong neon green fluorescence under shortwave UV, and reach over 1 cm in size. Currently mounted to an acrylic block for display. Nothing present that I would consider damage.
