A dark golden bronze and somewhat lustrous pyrrhotite crystal partially coated with microcrystalline quartz. Cleaved base allows for a perfect display without needing support. Like pyrite and marcasite, pyrrhotite tends to decompose ('pyrite rot') over time. This sample has been around for awhile - previous owner's collection card gives a 1982 purchase date - and has no sulfurous/metallic odor so appears to be quite stable.
