| 00817: Gypsum variety Selenite and Calcite
- $40 Károlytáró, Gyöngyösoroszi, Gyöngyös District, Heves County, Hungary Cabinet - 10.8 x 8.0 x 4.8 cm 246 grams Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order Clustered sprays of prismatic,
terminated gypsum crystals to 3 cm on a carpet of smaller,
translucent, scalenohedral calcite crystals. The main
gypsum spray occupies a regal spot at the matrix apex, and
is sufficiently transparent (moreso than the photos
suggest) to earn the selenite variety moniker. The gypsum
displays modest white fluorescence under both longwave UV
(blacklight) and shortwave UV. The specimen is in
excellent condition. Better by far than any of the other Mindat photos of gypsum from this
locality.
