Fluorite, Sphalerite, and Calcite
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee
Cabinet - 9.8 x 9.2 x 3.9 cm (3.9 x 3.6 x 1.5 inches)
458 grams (1.01 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

The display face of a massive brown sphalerite matrix is nearly completely covered with transparent, light purple fluorite cubes to 1.7 cm in size. (Note that fluorite color is dependent on the light source. The photos you see here were taken under white LED lighting. However, the color in your mineral cabinet might be somewhat different, especially if you use fluorescent or halogen lighting.) Many of the fluorites have some appealing phantoms and/or dark spots. Small, colorless calcites scattered about add some sparkle. This classic Elmwood Mine specimen has a few scattered but insignificant nicks and dings, but otherwise the condition is quite nice. Displays nicely in a horizontal position, but vertical display would require a stand. A previous collection label carries a 1984 mining or acquisition date.
