The Naica mines have long been famous for a plethora of beautiful mineral specimens, especially fluorite. This example features pale blue to colorless, translucent to mostly transparent fluorite cubes. (Recall that fluorite color can be dependent on light source. The photos shown where were taken under white LED illumination, but the color may be slightly different in your mineral cabinet, especially if you use fluorescent or halogen lights.) These crystals have very lightly frosted faces and reach 2.7 cm in size. They are especially nice when backlit. Draped over a portion of the specimen is a carpet of brightly brassy and sparkly, small pyrite crystals. Aside from the usual edge and back issues, the specimen is free of objectionable damage. Displays quite nicely in a horizontal position as shown, but would also be quite nice vertically (with a stand and backlighting). A previous collection label gives a mining or acquisition date of 1978.
