Sphalerite, Dolomite, and Quartz
Trepča Complex, Trepča Valley, Kosovska Mitrovica, Kosovo
Miniature - 5.4 x 4.8 x 4.2 cm (2.1 x 1.9 x 1.7 inches)
90 grams (0.20 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

A matrix of colorless, translucent to transparent quartz points hosts several lustrous, jet black sphalerite crystals as well as a contrasting carpet of pinkish dolomite microcrystals. The largest complete sphalerite is about 1.3 cm wide (a terminated but incomplete 2.1 cm wide sphalerite sits at the base of the specimen). Sits quite nicely for display at various angles. Except for the usual edge and base issues no damage is seen. A previous North Star Minerals label indicated the specimen was mined in 1969.
