Titanite and Fluorapatite
Bancroft area, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada
Cabinet - 9.9 x 5.4 x 3.9 cm (3.9 x 2.1 x 1.5 inches)
246 grams (0.54 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

This specimen features very lustrous, sparkly and glassy, deep brown to black titanite crystals Over and through a matrix of glassy, opaque fluorapatite crystals. The titanites (which reach 1 cm) and fluorapatites (the largest of which is 3.8 cm) both have a somewhat melted appearance (I presume from partial resorption into a calcite matrix, which has subsequently been removed). A Canadian classic which sits nicely for display without needing additional support. This specimen has some of the usual edge and back issues but nothing I'd consider to be damage.
