19980:
Ferberite and Calcite
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou, Hunan, China
Miniature - 3.1 x 3.1 x 1.3 cm (1.2 x 1.2 x 0.5 inches)
32 grams (0.07 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

The Yaogangxian Mine is among the world's best localities for ferberite. In this case the ferberite is beautifully lustrous and well terminated. One face is covered with small, lightly frosted, white translucent calcite crystals which display modest pink fluorescence under both longwave and shortwave UV. The ferberite base appears to be healed break, so this specimen is a floater. Displays nicely on a stand as shown. One tiny point where the termination is incomplete - hardly noticeable - otherwise condition is darn near pristine. An excellent miniature example for the species and locality.
