14939:
Albite Epimorph after Rémondite
Poudrette Quarry, Mont Saint-Hilaire, La Vallée-du-Richelieu RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada
Miniature - 5.3 x 3.0 x 2.8 cm (2.1 x 1.2 x 1.1 inches)
17 grams (0.04 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

An epimorph (sometimes called a cast) is formed when one mineral is coated by a second mineral, followed by dissolution of the original mineral. In this case the original mineral was rémondite, Na3(Ce,La,Ca,Na,Sr)3(CO3)5, which was replaced by snow-white and somewhat sparkly, bladed albite. Some black, dull, and unidentified material is also present. Just another oddity from this mineralogically complex and interesting locality, having 429 identified species including 66 type locality species. Except for where removed from matrix, no damage.
