Tourmaline, Quartz, and Opal
Erongo Region, Namibia
Miniature - 3.7 x 3.1 x 1.7 cm (1.5 x 1.2 x 0.7 inches)
13 grams (0.03 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

A jackstraw cluster of colorless to gray, translucent to transparent quartz crystals hosts a nest of black tourmaline along with a few patches of opal. The quartz crystals reach nearly 2 cm. The tourmalines have excellent luster, reach 1.6 cm in length, and most have flat terminations. Some of the quartzes are grown around or penetrated by, tourmalines. Examination under shortwave UV reveals patches of opal having bright green fluorescence (second photo, but in reality, brighter). Displays nicely horizontally but needs a stand for vertical display as shown in the first photo. The standard edge issues are present, but no objectionable damage is seen (especially for this price).
