Goethite Pseudomorphs after Siderite
Mount Malosa, Zomba, Southern Region, Malawi
Miniature - 5.3 x 1.8 x 1.8 cm (2.1 x 0.7 x 0.7 inches)
10 grams (0.02 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

An aesthetic column of sharp, stacked goethite pseudomorphs after a rhombohedral precursor mineral (probably siderite), with individual crystals reaching almost 9 mm in size. A few patches of nonpseudomorphous goethite are also present. Displays horizontally or vertically with a stand. Some edge chipping is noted -- and quite common where the replacing goethite was softer -- otherwise no significant damage.
