19615:
Sphalerite and Fluorite
Annabel Lee Mine, Harris Creek Mining Sub-District, Hardin County, Illinois
Miniature - 5.3 x 4.1 x 2.8 cm (2.1 x 1.6 x 1.1 inches)
71 grams (0.16 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

The majority of this specimen is lustrous, deep brown sphalerite -- much like an Elmwood Mine sphalerite -- but in this case the surface has more texture, which adds some sparkle. (My lousy photos fail to capture this.) Also present are numerous colorless but mostly transparent fluorite crystals, with lightly etched surfaces. Most are cubes but one is more tabular. The white snowy areas are probably residual barite. Displays nicely without needing a stand. Very minimal edgewear to some fluorites (not easily visible to the naked eye); otherwise in fine condition.
