Fluorite
Esperanza Mine, Melchor Múzquiz, Melchor Múzquiz Municipality, Coahuila, Mexico
Small cabinet - 6.8 x 4.7 x 4.3 cm (2.7 x 1.9 x 1.7 inches)
Weight - 140 grams (0.31 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

A cluster of very dark blue to purple fluorite crystals, whose true color is best appreciated when backlit (second photo). Recall that fluorite color is strongly dependent on illumination: the photos below were taken under white LED light, but the color you experience might be a bit different if your mineral cabinet uses a different light source. The specimen has an opaque core but the outer crystals are nicely translucent. Individual crystals reach about 2.1 cm in size. A small patch of calcite with a melted appearance is also seen. Minimal chipping and edgewear are noted along with the usual back and edge issues, but these are not distracting. Displays quite nicely as shown without needing external support.
