Faden Quartz - $24 Serra das Éguas, Brumado, Bahia, Brazil Miniature - 4.6 x 4.0 x 1.2 cm (1.8 x 1.6 x 0.5 inches) 28 grams (0.06 pounds) Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order 'Faden' is a German word meaning
'string'; in quartz it refers to a milky, bubbly line
formed during crystal growth while slowly being pulled
apart as opposite edges retreat. This particular faden
quartz appears to have two, roughly perpendicular faden
lines - one strong and the other faint - quite uncommon.
The highly transparent and nicely glassy crystal is also
flat and tabular; a style sometimes called a 'tabby'. A
few chips and contact points are noted.
