This specimen consists of several dark brown, earthy pseudomorphs of goethite after discoid siderite on and in decomposing microcline. The pseudomorphed discs reach 2.6 cm, and the remaining terminated microcline measures 2.7 cm. The sequence of mineralogical events which lead to this specimen are somewhat unclear. Normally I would expect microcline to be deposited first followed by siderite growth, and finally pseudomorphing at a later time. However, when removing decomposing feldspar from this specimen during clearing I discovered siderite pseudomorphs within the microcline, suggesting possible simultaneous deposition (?). Regardless, a great example of siderite discoids having been pseudomorphed by goethite (pseudomorphs of blocky siderites are more common; see specimen 12312 in this update). Sits well for display without needing a stand. Do you see the Mickey Mouse ears?
