Microcline - $28 Himalaya Mine, Mesa Grande District, San Diego County, California Cabinet - 12.0 x 7.5 x 3.7 cm (4.7 x 3.0 x 1.5 inches) 446 grams (0.98 pounds) Ex Jim Bowersox collection Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order A large microcline crystal from this
classic gem pegmatite locality. Some faces are lustrous
while others have growth features rendering them rough
and pitted; this type of feldspar growth is sometimes
called 'bonespar' for its bone marrow-like appearance.
The specimen is complete all around without an obvious
point of removal from matrix; hence it is a 'floater'.
One end has a an obvious striated cast where this
microcline wrapped partway around a tourmaline crystal.
An excellent example of the typical microcline at the
locality. Easily sits for display without needing a
stand. No damage. Ex Jim Bowersox collection; the
original collection card which accompanies the specimen
records that it was personally by Jim in 1970.
