A knob of bright, massive to crystalline pyrite is topped with numerous galena cubes, these reaching about 1 cm. As received this specimen was enveloped in a gray crust and had an obnoxious metallic/sulfurous odor, indicating decomposition. The decomposition was halted by treating with ammonia followed by thorough drying and the crust removed by a soak in EDTA solution followed by sonication. The specimen is now stable and lacks any objectionable odor. Sits nicely for display without needing a stand.
