| 44514: Hanksite - $18 Searles Lake, San Bernardino County, California Small cabinet - 8.2 x 6.1 x 5.3 cm 302 grams Fluorescent (LW/SW) Illustrated: Mineral Specimen Cleaning and Development for the Amateur, page 293 Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order A mostly translucent hanksite crystal
which has been lightly oiled for preservation. Certainly
not textbook form but with the demise of the Searles Lake Mineral
Club's annual Gem-O-Rama in 2018, this material is
becoming much harder to find, especially not decomposed
and especially in professionally-conserved condition.
Fluorescent: weakly so under shortwave ultraviolet light
but glows brightly under longwave (blacklight).
Illustrated on page 293 of my new book Mineral Cleaning
and Development for the Amateur (where you can read how it
was conserved).
